Ed Mitchell: What Happened Next?
(2009) 1 x 30' Documentary

Ed Mitchell, former ITN newsreader and recent homeless, bankrupt and divorced alcoholic, spent most of January 2008 in the Priory breaking his addiction to alcohol. Saving Ed Mitchell, the documentary of his attempt to take control of his life again, drew an audience of 4.7million.

Ed Mitchell: What Happened Next? follows his tough journey back from the brink. Sober for the first time in ten years he has to confront his demons and admit that giving up alcohol has left a gaping hole in an empty life. He has to cope with the tragic death of his former colleague Carol Barnes and he has to come to terms with what his drinking had done to his family. Ed is also shocked when he meets an old drinking buddy in a desperate state and we see how this inspires him to do all he can to raise awareness of homelessness.

Quotes:
"Last year's programme [Saving Ed Mitchell] charting Ed's descent from celebrity to homeless alcoholic really caught the public's imagination. Throughout the year, many viewers have asked us if he's since managed to turn his life around, and this follow-up film will provide the answer."
