Extreme Makeover: Home Edition frontman Ty Pennington sets out to transform the rundown coastal Cornish town of Portreath in this ambitious new format. In decline since the 1960s when the tin mining industry closed down, Portreath's survival depends on tourism. But the competition is tough. With Padstow and Rock, its two trendier neighbours claiming the majority of the tourists, Portreath has to work hard to get on the tourist radar. And, to make things harder, storms earlier this year devastated the town and damaged the one area, The Park, which the entire village could use.
But Portreath has an indomitable community spirit. Local young mums have led the campaign to restore this vital village area - somewhere for both the young and old to congregate. Despite their best efforts, the funds raised are woefully inadequate and the challenge insurmountable - creating a kids' park alone will use up all the funds the community has. So, the cry for help has gone out to Ty.
It's a big challenge. Ty will need to rally all the community representatives and come up with a design that enables the entire village to benefit from The Park. It needs a playpark, a new football pitch, seating area for the mums, a store full of the latest sports equipment, and a stunning walk. And, it must all be fully funded, completed in an aesthetic, environmentally friendly way and within one week!
Ty's Big British Adventure sees Ty doing what he does best - surprising deserving local people who have volunteered to help but who also deserve recognition and reward. With the clock ticking, will Ty complete his mission of mercy?
