The Estate We’re In, Twofour’s 5 x 45’ series which saw campaigning grandmother Silla Carron attempt to transform a run down housing estate in Plymouth, has picked up the award for Best Daytime Programme in the industry’s prestigious Broadcast Awards 2009. Series Producer, Neil Edwards, and Director, Greg Williams, collected the award at a ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel in London last night (21st January).

One judge dubbed the programme, "brave and inspirational daytime TV", another added, "The crusade to rally the estate was captivating, uplifting and never preachy" and Rob Brydon who presented the award on the night said: "The one word that kept coming up when talking about this show was 'brave'.”

“I am absolutely thrilled that The Estate We’re In has won this award,” said Melanie Leach, Managing Director Twofour Broadcast. “The series, filmed in Plymouth and broadcast in April last year, was an instant winner with the daytime audience, provoking a huge response from around the country. The series has already been acknowledged locally by winning an RTS Devon and Cornwall Centre Award and it is fantastic that it has been recognized nationally and against very strong competition.”

The Broadcast Awards run by the leading television industry television magazine, Broadcast, are held each year to recognize and reward excellence in programme-making.
