Make My Body Younger – Tuesdays at 8pm on BBC Three
Make My Body Younger has returned to BBC Three on Tuesdays for a brand new 8 part series which offers a no-holds-barred wake-up call to young party animals. Presented by George Lamb, each programme examines the over-the-top lifestyle of a contributor to see what damage their excesses are doing to their insides. What impact are all the drugs, drink, poor diet and ciggies having on their organs? They may or may not look okay on the outside, but what about their insides? How has their lifestyle prematurely aged them? And how much time is there left to try and slow down the ageing process?
It opened with 22-yr-old glamour model and presenter Bianca Gascoigne and this week (Tuesday 26 May at 8pm) it turns the spotlight on 24 year old chef Chris Wilkinson. Chris has worked alongside acclaimed chefs such as Anthony Worrall-Thompson and served the Queen on a Royal visit to New Zealand. But in the last two years Chris has turned from haut cuisine to Spag Bol, dishing up fast food to 18-30 coach trip clubbers across Europe. It’s a life where partying is part of the job description and in 18 months Chris has piled on 4 stone.
Born and bred in the picturesque Welsh village of Tenby, the normally mild-mannered Chris has an alter-ego, party animal ‘Welshie’. Capable of downing a jaw-dropping 200 units of alcohol a week, no party or occasion is ever too small for ‘Welshie’ the big time boozer to celebrate. Transient living on coach tours and in hostels where the partying never stops have done nothing to help Chris take control of his burgeoning weight and a spiralling drink problem fuelled by innumerable pints and shots washed down with copious amounts of gin. His drinking is so notorious that a bar in Italy has named a drink after him, a ‘Welshie’ - half a pint of gin mixed with tonic water.
Now on a minimum of ten pints a night, without which he claims he cannot sleep, Chris’s concern is that he may be heading for a lonely life, and an early grave. Will the shock results of his own living autopsy be enough to put him back on track?
