Home acquires The Hotel Inspector

The UK’s only dedicated home and gardens channel, Home, has acquired series 1-3 of Twofour’s The Hotel Inspector.
In a move that swaps home comforts for hotel hospitality, Home has acquired 17 x 60’ episodes of The Hotel Inspector, the show that puts the frighteners on underperforming hoteliers nationwide.
The deal was negotiated by Nicki McDermott, Acquisitions Executive at UKTV and Anthony Hughes at Twofour and brings the RTS award-winning show to UKTV for the first time.
The Hotel Inspector was a critical and commercial hit for Five when it first aired in November 2005, attracting 2.5m viewers at its peak. The show features renowned hotelier, restaurateur and food writer Ruth Watson who dispenses straight-talking advice to struggling businesses in the nation’s most visited tourist spots.
The programmes were ordered by Clare Laycock, Channel Head for Home to boost Home’s growing slate of lifestyle shows with a more overt entertainment focus. The show will be stripped in a peak time slot and build on Home’s credentials in the interior design and makeover genres whilst widening its audience appeal.
“This show’s for everyone who has ever spent a night in substandard accommodation. Behind Ruth Watson’s no-nonsense style there are some fantastic lessons about interior design and how to make a home away from home work’,”said Laycock.
Catherine Mackin, Director of Content Acquisition, said, “We set our sights on this title because it’s both fantastically entertaining and recognisably true to life.” Anthony Hughes said: “We are extremely proud of the Hotel Inspector series. They illuminate brilliantly the nation’s love hate relationship with hotels and guest houses and I am sure Ruth’s no nonsense approach is really going to appeal to the UKTV audience.”
With the highest standards – and a vicious eye for detail, The Hotel Inspector ruthlessly lifts the lid on the grotty hotel experience: cheap cotton, inferior interiors and atmosphere more akin to a morgue than a place to holiday.
Series 1 will air on Home in late summer 2010.
