(2009) 1 x 60’ for BBC TWO and BBC FOUR
As part of the Modern Beauty Season on BBC TWO and BBC FOUR, Sue Perkins delves behind net curtains to look at The Art on Your Wall. Searching through the living rooms of the British, Sue maps changing tastes and the types of images of beauty we choose when it comes to what we hang on our wall.
From 1950 to the present day, Sue looks at the rise of the mass produced print, its popularity and what it tells us about British taste. Is the art we hang in our homes different from the kind of art we expect to see in a gallery? Some of the iconic mass produced images are reproductions of famous artists, some are unknown; who are these artists? And why are they popular? Speaking to contributors from art, design and retail backgrounds Sue comes to the conclusion that whilst the past is fraught with changing trends in the art that adorns our homes; now we can combine classical, modernist, contemporary, ethnic, retro and even kitsch styles to reflect the diversity that is modern Britain.
